He’s part of the Gospel group, Casting Crowns.

Look them up on YouTube.

I have several of their CDs and I really love them.

Does anyone know why the CSpan camera went offline for a while, and when it came back up, it’s on the street? It’s been outside filming ever since. I heard sirens at first, but not now.

I hadn’t heard about them. Thanks for letting me know.

As long as we’re on music, I’ve been almost obsessed with the USAF band and their yearly mosh performances at the Smithsonian. Looked for one for this year, but haven’t found it yet. Below are links to previous ones, which have a tendency to get my eyes a bit puddled up. I used to have a direct link to the YouTube versions, which were great b/c they showed them coming on one by one, but can’t find them now and I don’t have a subscription so can’t search on YouTube. It would have been so awesome to be there for one of these performances. I just LOVE listening to and watching these.

I love snow, except when I need to travel around here - ice underneath and tons of hills - really treacherous. Grew up driving in snow in Denver, where the snow was much different and they had enough vehicles to remove it, for the most part. I had a VW bug back then and it was like a baby jeep. I remember one year when neither my mom or stepdad could take their big cars out and be on the road safely, so 5 of us piled in my bug to go to midnight Mass.

Enjoy the snow - always extra fun this time of year!

VW Beetles were excellent snow cars, until it got deep enough that the light front end started riding up and you couldn't steer. Corvairs were great snow cars, too. Crappy heat in both, crappy heat in general with air-cooled engines. The heater works in a Jeep.

You’re right about the heater. I had to save 1/2 the money for the car and my dad agreed to put up the other half (graduation gift). It was a used 61 convertible - he said I wasn’t going to get a foreign car or a convertible - ha!

Thing ended up being a bit of a lemon at first and then was a great car. Heater worked in the summer when it was 90 degrees, but not in the winter and the convertible top didn’t fit right in the front, so the snow would come in through the space. All in all, it was a really fun car!

Had a friend that had an old Corvair. Wouldn’t mind having either of those cars right now - fun times!

There were optional gas-fired heaters for both that worked, too well. Fire hazard, didn’t last long. The lack of decent heat wasn’t as big of a problem as the associated lack of an effective defroster in very cold weather. You can dress for cold and wear gloves to drive, but constantly having to scrape your frozen breath off of the inside of the windshield while driving is just not very workable.

Great cars, the both of them, though. I’d dearly love to have a nice second generation Corvair, just about all the challenges of a rear mounted air cooled engine were solved by that car, truly a poor man’s Porsche and more advanced in some ways than the Porsche of the same era. Beautiful example of Bill Mitchell era GM styling, too. Very influential.

That was GREAT! Thank you SO MUCH! I love the USAF flash mobs - great songs, band and voices! I listen to them every year. Sure would love to be there in person for one of them. Great also to see all the smiling faces during their various performances.

I recall not liking Karmann Ghias as a kid when they were new, not sure why but I just didn’t like the look of them. Now, looking back, I realize I was nuts, lol. They’re beautiful.

Re the frost - I kept an ice scraper in the front seat - didn’t need it WHEN the heater and defrost worked, but every now and then it came in handy.

From what I’ve heard and read, the issues with the Corvair were very much hyped. I think it was a car way ahead of it’s time. Perhaps the Edsel was, too, but I don’t know much about that, so not going there.

Thank you, that was wonderful.

Loved the look on the children’s faces.

Such a great time of year with all the sounds and the smells and the feelings of a rebirth.
