Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Rex Tillerson has emerged as the leading candidate to become President-elect Donald Trumps pick for secretary of state, according to two transition officials, marking the latest twist in a multiweek search for a top diplomat.
Mr. Tillerson moved ahead of other candidates, including 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who have had multiple conversations with Mr. Trump about the job. Mr. Tillerson is viewed by some of Mr. Trumps advisers as a mold-breaking pick who would bring an executives experience to the diplomatic role, said a person involved in the process.
Messrs. Trump and Tillerson met on Tuesday and are expected to speak again over the weekend, the person said. Mr. Trump has said he would like to make a formal announcement about his State Department pick about his pick next week.
Mr. Trump said in a statement on Friday that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had taken himself out of the running for the diplomatic job and other administration posts late last month.

This must be the “10th Top Candidate”. Whatever happened to....waiting patiently?
At 56:40 says that he is disheartened that most of the public discourse on climate change has been at the two extremes and that the solution will be found by thoughtful people in the middle, managing the risk and dealing with tradeoffs.
Wonder if representing the US in climate change global agreements is what Trump sees him for primarily.
We could always avoid conflicts o interest by putting a pure politician in charge of foreign policy. Like John Kerry.
On the other hand, if access to energy (e.g., oil & gas) is what's driving international relations these days, it might be a good idea to have somebody who knows something about oil & gas in charge.
.
Another big globalist.
.
Who do you suggest?
Yep. The foreign policy team is coming together. First send in the Mad Dog to bring the peace then send in Rex to take the spoils.
No nation building experience required.
That would be NYS AG Eric “Twerp” Schneiderman...
People may have forgotten that Russia and China had a mini war in 1969. Both of these Commie countries remember that conflict.
And China is now basically ready and able to expropriate a large chunk of North West Siberia and Kanchatka
So, lodi, you want who or what, exactly?
I’m not really particular who Trump picks. I just know I don’t want an energy connected careerist negotiating with the Chicoms and Putinist Russia.
How dare you propose that successful people who have made concrete contributions be preferred over those of higher intellect who can pretend to know what is best for everyone else!!!!!!
The losers want inexperienced dolts to head trumps cabinet so the rest of the world can continue to f us
Why? You have to be a politician to be the SOS? This is just modern day buffoonery. It would be a great choice; and by the way, this is how you drain the swamp. Stop playing the same old games with the same old tired cast of politicians
Again, why is it people who have interest (because they actually own things and work for a living) can’t serve the people but crooked career politicians can? Of course every politician becomes corrupted if all you have is a plethora of people in it for themselves and not people making a sacrifice.
I don’t care much who Trump picks for his cabinet. I just don’t want someone negotiating for us who stands to gain financially and/or professionally from giving away the store. Regardless, it doesn’t matter. He wouldn’t be confirmed. Not even at 50 votes. Exxon has to many ties to the Chicoms and Putinist Russia.

I see nothing wrong with that resume. DJT is not stupid should he appoint him as SOS.
exactly! They only want the same old tired cast of shady politicians running the government. The people need to FIGHT for normal people to be in government. This is the best chance the country will have for a very very long time! (maybe ever)
Hes literally done trillions of dollars worth of deals including a $500 Billion deal with Putin in Russia.
And if Putin decrees it that deal becomes worthless. Talk about a reset. LOL.
Couldn’t Bolton be his deputy?
At 38:40 says he has a close relationship with Putin, known him for 15 years and ExxonMobil has invested a lot in Russia. Talks about the effect of US sanctions against Putin.
No chance he gets confirmed. Zero. This one is really out of left field from Team Trump. What are they thinking?
