So, this is the new conservatisms recipe for restored greatness: Political coercion shall supplant economic calculation in shaping decisions by companies in what is called, with diminishing accuracy, the private sector. This will be done partly as conservatisms challenge to liberalisms supremacy in the victimhood sweepstakes, telling aggrieved groups that they are helpless victims of vast, impersonal forces, against which they can be protected only by government interventions

George Will is an idiot.
Poindexter.
Who cares what George Dill has to say anymore!
President-Elect Trump is a patriotic pragmatist.
Indeed he is. Or, perhaps “intellectually bankrupt” is more appropriate.
Conservative principles have not been undermined here or by Trump’s “philosophy”; he is simply being pragmatic in his recognition that with the kind of trade deals and tolerance of financial shenanigans we’ve tolerated from our trade partners the working class in this country has paid a disproportionate price and important aspects of our industry have been hollowed out. Something has to be done and he’s one to do it!
Yep, George Will has proven himself to be an idiot of the highest order. I bet he pines for Obama.
George, why don’t you equally complain about the income tax taxing only productive members of society?
I don’t understand how China can tax our products and we can’t tax theirs. George, do you care to tell us?
George Will and many of these Trump bashing morons are paid off traitors against America.
One of the magic things Trump is doing is talking about deregulating or reducing government regulations on U.S. businesses.
Oppressive U.S. government regulations are the main thing that have been driving companies to leave the USA (and why China is making everything).
Just Trump saying he will reduce gov regulations on business has many companies saying they will come back to the USA and even the richest Bank in Japan saying they will invest in the USA 50 billion$ )BECAUSE OF TRUMP’S TALK OF DEREGULATION.
Drastically reducing government regulations on businesses is a very conservative political idea.
Many have told us that Trump is not conservative . Yet in the past 30 years no supposed conservative (Canadian or otherwise) politician has ever proposed reducing government regulations ( if they have then show me the bill that they or He the Canadian wrote ok?)
In fact the only other politician other than Trump to even try deregulating some industries was Ronald Reagan( But even Reagan didn’t deregulate manufacturing as Japan really kicked the USA s in the 1980s and even now Most best selling cars are Japanese cars Toyota , Honda, Nissan etc. and even some TVs like Sony Hitachi Japan still has the best technology ). Trump was warning even then in the 1980’s about Japan’s practices.
How long has it been since markets were “free?”
Dear George,
So I guess it was OK for the government to regulate businesses out of existence, provide a hostile climate for free enterprise, tax them exhorbitantly, give them no reason at all to stay and every reason to leave or shut down, but it isn’t ok to work to provide a business friendly environment and to work to negotiate with companies to stay in the USA.
Ok, thanks George.
You forgot the next step: only government can protect us from the free market.
The founding fathers put in high import tariffs and they served us well for 180 years. Reducing them was a major mistake that resulted in high unemployment, industry loss, and real wage stagnation.

“George Will is an idiot”
Bingo.
Carrier freely decided to stay. The free market is doing just fine.
Everyone at National Review should just be ignored and maybe they will just fade away or go out of business.
