Berlin - Chancellor Angela Merkel won a new two-year term Tuesday as the leader of Germany's main conservative party, gaining solid backing after stressing her determination to prevent a repeat of last year's huge migrant influx. Merkel, who ran unopposed, won 89.5 percent of delegates' votes at a congress of her Christian Democratic Union in the western city of Essen. That was short of the 96.7 per cent she won two years ago, but still a strong mandate as she prepares to seek a fourth term as chancellor in next year's German election.

Germany saw about 890,000 asylum-seekers arrive last year. Many came after Merkel decided in September 2015 to let in migrants who were stuck in Hungary. The numbers have since declined sharply, but Merkel's "we will cope" approach to the migrant crisis has provoked discord within the CDU, which has seen a string of poor state election results this year.

I suppose the CDU passes for conservative in Germany, but here Merkle would be the same politically as any Democratic presidential nominee. Left of most Americans.

If Merkel is the conservative... all I can think of in regards to the German people is “Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.”
Stop them where possible? But it’s impossible to stop any of them, because that would be MEAN!
No country deserves it more, even sweeter now that they voted for more. Has there ever been a more dangerously foolish electorate?

She ran unopposed. What passes for the Conservative party of Germany may as well have done a Hitler in the bunker by putting a pistol in its mouth and pulling the trigger. Next comes an even worse SDP.
Just a PIVOT for the cameras... Germany elections will be held no later than October of 2017... hopefully the German people will not be conned by this traitor and send her and her party packing.
Unfortunately the other major parties are even worse.
