When I was a pole watcher evey one was watching like hawks.

When I saw a black woman come in saying she wanted to vote, she asked if one of the white guys would help her read the ballot. He said he would do that and then, in front of everybody, he asked if she wanted to vote Democrat (he asked her nothing else). She said yes. He then took her hand and as she gripped the pencil (yes, pencil)tightly he pulled her hand down the page hitting every appropriate Dem circle. So she got to vote and I reported him.

I was never asked to poll watch again.

My father was cheated the first time he ran for local office. One of the voting machines in a not friendly precinct had a couple hundred more votes on it than the register had signatures. He lost the election by a total of 8 votes. He didn't pay for a recount, but won the next time. I was in high school and tasked with sitting at that precinct all day and watching. I was young enough and arrogant enough to get right in their face as they performed various election official duties. :)
