House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Monday refused to back President-elect Donald Trumps push for a 35-percent tariff on companies that move operations abroad and then sell their goods back in the United States, saying corporate tax reform is the key to retaining American jobs.
I think thats a better way to solve the problem than getting in a trade war over a 35-percent tariff, the California Republican told reporters.

It’s disgusting, command economy, central planning to have someone like Denninger sit in his ivory tower and slap taxes on products as he sees fit to achieve phony, made-up goals like “parity” or “equality.”
This is called having know-nothing know-it-alls attempt to control everything everybody does to achieve their megalomaniacal fantasies about what an economy should be. This is what Obama does with his EPA and other regulatory agencies.
Not only is making such rules evil to begin with, but EVEN IF they made some kind of economic sense at the time they were written, the economy is a shifting, dynamic enterprise. The numbers that seem right on one day will always shift into a completely different calculation on the next day. Which is why trying to put static controls on a dynamic economy results in a collapsed economy where you can’t even buy toilet paper.
Send this statist, commie BS back to DU or a Bernie Sanders forums.
Which is a policy that makes no sense in the long run. It may stop job cuts, but an expanding company could simply build all their new factories overseas.
An economy is an expression of human freedom. It cannot be controlled by the whims of megalomaniacal central planners of either the Sanders or Trump variety. Insane regulations and taxes simply force people to find creative ways around it or go underground.
If it makes economic sense to produce something in another country, then it will be done and it should be done. The consumer is king. Products are not produced for the purpose of giving people salaries and benefits. Labor costs are a necessary evil. Ideally all products would be made without having to pay ANYONE anything to make them.
I heard Preibus make an interesting statement this weekend on some news show. He said that the US taxes every export but has no taxes on any import. I did a double take at the tv, did I hear that right? If so we have to be the absolute stupidest people on the planet.
Fair trade is the ticket. If it is no fees, no taxes, not one penny for a country to send something into the US, then I expect the same terms if we send something into their country.
McCarthy is just doing the bidding of his owners the Chamber of Crony Commerce. He’s their slave along with most of the GOPE.
“Lord, give your people some backbone!”
There’s a difference between “backbone” and wasting your time on exercises in futility.
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy on his knees before an army of unzipped Chamber of Commerce “leadership” treasonweasels having a hell of a good time one by one as usual. McCarthy is apparently highly skilled and quite experienced. Next up on the knee pads: Treasonweasel Speaker Paul Ryan.
as 0bama has shown over the last 8 years, with little to no opposition from the GOP in the house, Trump will need no support of the house to do what he wants
I didn’t mean the leader himself. But check out the Irish pubs in NY and Boston.
Yes ... LOL.
You’re precisely correct.
The much overrated Kevin McCarthy is likely still smartin’ over losing his leadership promotion due to some scandal, IIRC.
I didn’t know about “a better way” ditty ... (how utterly corny)!, so thanks very much for revealing THAT! LOL.
I’ve always viewed Kevin as a slimeball, weasel type of guy, who views himself as though he thinks he’s slick and smarter than he actually “is.”
I agree with you that both Kevin and Speaker Paul had better back POTUS TRUMP 100% and forcefully advocate for him 110% or there shall be heavy and swift consequences.
I heard that same thing. Which show was it?
That’s not exactly a RINO position. Tariffs are ultimately paid, not by the company, but by the consumer. US companies may not move production overseas, but foreign competitors will sell their product here, and consumers have broadly benefited from that market entry, in more diverse and more competitively priced purchase options. So, trade regulators will either allow US markets to be ceded to foreign competitors, or impose tariffs on imports. Those tariffs are nothing but a regressive tax on American consumers.
Good thing you weren't around in 1773 when all that talk of "Independence" was being bandied about.
I thought consumption taxes are better than income or wealth taxes
Pff, yeah there’s a real comparison between Congressional hacks passing bills that they know would amount to nothing and our founding fathers. /sarc
So, tell me, which tax does this replace?
The stupid ACA Real Estate tax?
I want to say Bulls and Bears or Cavuto.
I watch FBN so it could be either
