For all its bad politics, the free market is still strikingly efficient out on the streets of NYC.
When I was a Sea Scout back in the 50s, we sold trees every Christmas to raise money for the annual pull-out for cleaning and painting. They used to go for 25 cents a foot. You wouldn’t believe the crying when we had to raise it to 50 cents a foot.
Unbelievable! But none of you libs move to Florida. I hear Maryland is nice.

I saw a pile of discarded month or so-old trees that were put to the torch. They went up like matchsticks and left hardly any ash! The show was over in 15 minutes.
$5 in 1956 is about $40 today.
