More moonbat liberals. These idiots have to vote for Hillary, so how they think they are derailing Trump seems to escape them.

Just a guess, but I would imagine they’re trying to set a legal precedent, so other state’s electors won’t have to follow the law.

As you are well aware, the United States is/are a republic, not "a democracy." And it is the states, through the “appointment” by each state of Electors “in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct,” which elect the POTUS.

By tradition, the legislatures all direct the popular election within each state of all Electors. But note, in the Nebraska Plan (also used by Maine), only two Electors are elected statewide, and one other Elector is elected within each Congressional District.

The Constitution does not say, or suggest, that the Electors shall be committed to a particular political party (which the Framers abhorred and hoped to avoid the development of in America) - let alone that the Electors would be committed to a particular individual. So, as unpopular as the concept is, the clear intent of the Constitution is that the Electors be chosen for their wisdom rather than for their servility. And be independent actors. But, obviously, that is not the way the public wants it - and if you tried to amend the Constitution to make it sound like what you assume and want, the likely result would be the passage of an amendment which switched over to a straight popular vote - and the states with the most illegal immigrants in them would elect the POTUS.

The reason these “moonbat liberals” want to be free to vote for someone other than Hillary! is simple - they despise Trump, but Hillary can’t win.. So they seek to logroll for someone other than Hillary or Trump. And the existence of the #NeverTrump faction within the GOP gives them (faint) hope that they can pull that off.

But in fact, of course, these Electors were nominated to be servile cyphers who robotically vote for Hillary. And, had she won, those same Electors would’ve been the first to decry any such attempt by Republican Electors to derail Hillary! in favor of, say, a President Bloomberg (which I think you would agree would be at least slightly less awful than what would otherwise be the only alternative).

Finally, the real scandal of the conceit that the Electors should logroll for a fusion candidate in this case is the fact that at least one of these “wise elder statesman” faithless Hillary Electors is only nineteen years old!
