Cambridge is a sanctuary city - very ‘diverse’

I don't know. Haven't lived there in several dog's ages. I do know that last year I had occasion to visit Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and was surprised by how many workers were wearing hijabs. But, that doesn't answer your question.

My initial question too. Weird that all the fire seems to be on the upper levels of the buildings on the inside.

It's East Cambridge, very near MIT. Years ago much of East Cambridge was working class people of mostly Irish and Italian background. By the time I was there 40+ years ago, it had become scruffy and a little dangerous. I.e. I wouldn't walk there at night.

Don't know who lives there now, but almost any university neighborhood in America is likely to be, as someone else put it, "diverse," and probably somewhat gentrified.

Cambridge has had neighborhoods with a mix of people from different backgrounds for many years. Traditionally, that neighborhood has had people with Italian, Greek, Irish, Portuguese, Brazilian, and other backgrounds mixed up with newly arrived students, hipsters, and immigrants from just about any country you can think of.
