AFT members can ask for a refund for that portion of union dues designated for political action. You have to request it in a very timely manner, and it will only be about $25.00 total per member.
The case that went to the SCOTUS, teachers suing their labor union, unfortunately split 4 to 4 after the death of Scalia. The unions were very happy about that.
