I find this to be The Issue that gets a lot of fence sitters stirred up. The sort of hipster-conservatives I know don’t like this at all. They lean towards conservativism but will overlook issues for personal convience (like shopping at Target) This one thing gets them all stirred up for their daughters.
I have mixed feelings about the whole issue myself but I think it will drive a group of people over the fence and into becoming true conservatives.
I really dont know. When waaaaay back when I was a college guy before I thought about anything from a consistent worldview, there really was not any one issue that pushed me into conservatism. It was a way of thinking and having unchanging core values that supported all the other beliefs for other arguments on top of them.
Maybe some, people do get pushed that way by one issue, but i think thats how you get rinos and gopers, for ex fiscal conservative, liberal social issues. Which if they were a real conservative they would see the hypocrisy/paradox of holding such a conflicting worldview.
