Soldiers are not social workers. What better way to to make a statement. His appointment will put Iran and others on notice. It will certainly give them pause.

Congress will need to repeal the law that prevents him from being Secretary of Defense, but I doubt that will be a problem. The Democrats will fight many of Trump’s appointments but I don’t think that this will be one of them.

They did it for Marshall in 1950. Does anyone know a time when such a request was denied? I don’t. That law wasn't on the books in 1950. I believe it was enacted in 1962.

A 1947 law prohibits him from serving - will need repeal of that legislation or a law waiving it for him (done once - for George Marshall).
