Here is a link to help out those affected by the horrible wildfires in the Smoky Mountains. There have been over 14,000 people evacuated,at least seven dead, several missing and hundreds of homes and businesses have been totally destroyed. The impact on that area will be tremendous for a long time.
Does Dolly donate to FR?
Not likely. She’s a Clinton supporter. I don’t doubt that this fund set up to benefit people harmed by these east TN fires is legitimate, though. Follow your conscience. They’re her people and she cares about them, Democrat or not. There are other charities coming in. Samaritan’s Purse is just over the mountain in NC. They’re above reproach.
Dolly Parton is a democRAT? And a Clinton supporter to boot?? Say it ain’t so!
She caused a controversy by supporting Clinton earlier this year, then tried to walk it back. I think her official stance at this point is “they’re both nuts,” but she’s long been known for being friendly to certain causes of the left.
From watching the videos it’s a miracle so many got out.
Dolly is a wonderful,good-hearted Christian woman who loves people of all walks of life. I seriously doubt that she is a political person at all. The point of this post is too spread the word about the tremendous devastation in this area and try to get them some assistance. Please don’t make it into anything other than that.
I suspect there’s going to be a rather sad death toll building over the next few days as they canvass burned vacation cabins one by one. It’s already up to seven fatalities.
Correction: to not too
Dolly Parton: ‘I Have Not Endorsed Hillary Clinton’ http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/Dolly-Parton-Endorsement-Hillary-Clinton-Nashville/2016/07/06/id/737290/
Please enough Dolly bashing. This is a VERY serious situation.
Thank you for posting this.
Agreed. It had to be hellish for many.
News now saying over 700 homes and businesses damaged or destroyed, in addition to the deaths and injuries.
For what it’s worth I live north of Knoxville about 60 miles or so from the fires. This is a legitimate verified effort to help families displaced with a monthly payment for six months time. Here is a local media verification article. http://wate.com/2016/11/30/dollywood-foundation-to-give-1000-per-month-to-gatlinburg-wildfire-families/
Thank you!! Everyone that I know in East Tennessee,Southwest Virginia and North Carolina is just heartbroken over this whole thing!!
Dollywood is jointly owned by the same company which operates Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo. Dollywood used to be called Silver Dollar City years ago before she became a partner in the Pigeon Forge Theme Park. I remember when it was Silver Dollar City. The co-owners operate the day to day business end and Dolly uses her name and influence on her part.
Politics aside she has for many years helped Sevier County in programs she founded & funded including incentives offered to help keep kids in high school and graduate. Yes Sevier County does have some high priced resorts and summer homes. It also has families in the county including Gatlinburg who work in tourism and they will be hit hardest as winter for many venues there is off season especially in Pigeon Forge. Dollywood will reopen Friday and it will likely close after Christmas until spring for upgrades as it does every year. The part that is open now is a Christmas Theme put on every year as I understand it and doesn't require a full staff park. For many their jobs burnt down along with their homes. The fact Dollywood didn't burn will help somewhat and I think the aquarium in Gatlinburg survived it.
Their next real danger is unprecedented since the early 1900's flooding and land slides. A major massive soil reclaiming effort must take place ASAP before spring rains hit.
Sure looks like that whole area was tinder.
Forests that aren’t logged and aren’t purposely burned will eventually naturally burn.
Is there any proactive way to deal with this kind of problem in other areas around the country? I’d think the Trump administration would be friendlier to logging.
