This isn’t over. But it lets us know which way things are going to go.
Trump has told these companies with a bull-horn what he will do if they leave, which is call them out and impose tariffs on their products. But the more important point is in the fine print, where he has consistently promised to eliminate the reasons they leave by lowering taxes, making it easier to repatriate their money, and streamlining regulations and red tape.
For Democrats, this all sounds dirty somehow. Which is why when Hillary promised to bring back jobs we knew she couldn’t do it because she didn’t intend to address the “why” they were leaving, in fact everything she would do would make them want to leave more.
