According to CNNs Chris Cuomo, it is the medias job to serve as the opposition to President-elect Donald Trumps incoming administration.
On CNNs New Day Wednesday morning, Cuomo vowed to oppose Trumps policies, and stated he feels it is the job of the media as a whole to treat the next president of the United States with hostility.
Per Cuomo, The media cannot yield. This administration is going to demand constant fact-checking and opposition.
The CNN anchor, who is the brother of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and the son the of late New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, said the reason for his belief is, Because otherwise, you dont know which way its going to go from day to day. Thats just a fact.
Cuomo made his comments during a discussion with New Day co-host Alisyn Camerota and CNN political director David Chalian.
Chalian was previously employed as the Washington bureau chief for Yahoo News, but was fired by the company in 2012 after he was caught on a hot-mic saying that Republican Party officials did not care if black people died during Hurricane Isaac.
The RNC held its 2012 convention in Tampa, as the powerful and unpredictable storm hugged the states western coast.
During a live web broadcast, Chalian said Republicans were not concerned at all. Theyre happy to have a party with black people drowning.
Chalian was promptly hired by CNN less than a year later, and promoted to political director in 2014
CNN has dubbed by critics as the Clinton News Network for its perceived bias coverage promoting Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in her campaign against Trump.
Cuomo, who joined the network following the 2012 presidential election, falsely claimed in October that it was illegal for CNN viewers to read documents published by Wikileaks, many of which contained private conversations between members of Clintons presidential campaign and inner circle.
Also interesting is, remember, its illegal to possess these stolen documents. Its different for the media. So everything you learn about this, youre learning from us, he said.
It was not uncommon for Trump supporters to yell disparaging comments about CNN at Trump rallies during the campaign season.
Trump himself lashed out at CNN president Jeff Zucker during a meeting Monday with key figures at several news networks, reportedly saying to Zucker, I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed.
Pull their White House pass.
Why should things change now?....
Yes! That is the medias job. They are supposed to be a watchdog of the government. They are not supposed to just parrot the official government line.it is the medias job to serve as the opposition to President-elect Donald Trumps incoming administration.
It is often claimed that journalists must be objective because of the First Amendment. That is propaganda, or misunderstanding fostered by propaganda. The First Amendment precludes the government from enforcing any standard of objectivity - and, as understood, little in the way of a standard of truthfulness. There are libel laws, but . . .In no sense does the First Amendment enforce objectivity, and there is no reason in the Bible why a Christian should assume that journalism would be objective. Journalists do claim that journalism is objective, but that is sheer propaganda. It is a self-negating claim, in that it is inconsistent with candor about any reasons why you might have a motive not to be objective. And such candor is sine qua non for anyone actually trying to be objective. It is legitimate, and laudable, to try to be objective. It is even legitimate to claim that you are trying to be objective (if indeed you are). But to claim actually to be objective is to be arrogant - and to foreclose the possibility that you actually are even trying to be objective.
If journalism isnt objective, what is the point of the First Amendment? Simply this - freedom of the press allows the possibility that the truth will be published by somebody. But of course, that depends on the existence of multiple free and independent presses. Rather than a media which actually consists of the Associated Press, and various front organizations which are distinct but not different.
People of the same trade [e.g., journalists] seldom meet together [e.g., virtually over the AP newswire], even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies; much less to render them necessary. - Adam Smith, Wealth of NationsSCOTUS long ago declared the AP to be in violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, but the APs mission of economizing on scarce and expensive bandwidth in the transmission of news made the AP too big to fail. The difference in the Internet era is that transmission bandwidth is not "scarce and expensive. It is dirt cheap.
Will be? WILL be?
Bwahahahahaha!!!!
You’ve been doing it already for the past 16 months or so!!!
What I am trying to say, though I am doing a poor job of it, is that the media being what they are (communists) and doing what they do (coordinated propaganda) is a big reason we can only have Republicans in public office. I would rather have themedia watching the government like a hawk while making mindless accusations and calling people racist than have them covering up government wrong doings and forcing the party line down our throats.
Your point is well taken and undeniable."The Democratic Party and the MSM is (not are, is) a single entity. Our constitutional system is dysfunctional at present because of hypertrophied faction (partisanship). The very thing that the Framers feared.
My point is that
- for business reasons journalism is negative toward American society. Just because bad news sells.
- the wire services homogenize journalism. Whereas newspapers used to be fractiously independent, they now consist of (slightly) various spins on the same input.
- the wire services exacerbate the natural tendency of journalism to claim objectivity. the claim of objectivity is self-negating because you cant even try to be objective without being candid about why you might not be objective.
- anyone, including journalists, who is negative and calls that negativity objective is a cynic.
- There is no reason to assume that both political parties would be independent of the cynical borg which is wire service journalism. And plenty of reasons why at least one party might be absorbed by the borg - leaving only the name, Democratic Party to distinguish it from the borg. Just like all the major newspapers still exist as fronts for the borg.
