Chris Christie would have been great for this post
And would have been the middle finger to the libs
Gift to McConnell. Might make legislative goals in Senate move more quickly.
Not my fave pick, but really? Just stop. This may well be a sop to Mitch to ensure no filibusters succeed.
Reagan had to pick a number of people who were not optimal, but whose selections got him other objectives. Try thinking strategic.
But, but, but, he’s mean to women and says bad things about them.
I work in Logistics, DOT has been out of control under O. Sound like Chao is just want we need at DOT.
This a brilliant appointment that joins the Senate Majority Leader to Trumps hip right from the gitgo, and nearly guarantees Mitch delivers the entire GOP Senate to Trump on nearly every issue for four years.
Not to mention, the woman has excellent experience and credentials, and clearly has amazing political instincts and capabilities since shes pretty much the power thats pushed the Mitch throne into the forefront since she married him in 1993.
Wow. A woman and a minority. What’s a racist misogynist to do??
Didn’t Elizabeth Dole hold this position once?
Given her name, I would have thought Secretary of Agriculture.
I’d love to see a law that states: No family member of a member of congress may be employed in the federal government, nor may they work or act as a lobbyist so long as their family member remains in elected position. If a family member is elected to federal office, they must leave their federal employment or lobbying position within 30 days of the election.
No conflicts of interest there whatsoever, no sir
Nah. Not buying it unless I hear it officially announced.
“Meet the new boss: same as the old boss.”
Naw. Trump isn’t a politician who lived off the gov’t tit all his adult life. Never Trumpers are going to despise him regardless of who he picks.
I think Trump knows exactly what he is doing with his cabinet appointments just as he knew what he was doing in the people he moved into & out of his campaign.
What is her family history?
Half a swamp drained is better then none, Mama used to say,, uhhhmmm hhmmm
Here’s the issue with the Transportation Department. It is all about planning and more planning. The have rules that every state, county, and city adopt an annual 6 year Transportation Improvement Plan which is a glorified wish list because most cities and counties don’t have enough funding to cover more than 1 project every couple of years.
The DOT mandates a planning process resulting in another level of bureaucracy at the local level called the MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization) or the RTPO (Rural Transportation planning Organization. These groups hire more planners and are made up from a board of local elected officials and department head level staff from the jurisdictions. All fed dollars are programmed to projects through a competitive presentation project and based on their merits either receive funding or remain on the 6 yr. plans until they are funded.
The MPO/RTPO process is where the public can weigh in and typically results in added bicycle lanes, ADA access, and other frills.
They have basically removed the engineers from projects and replaced them with a cumbersome planning process. Our state DOT has virtually replaced all senior level engineering staff with planners and it is difficult to communicate the project to them unless you speak planner...
We seem to be getting the same old creatures from the establishment. I thought Trump was draining the swamp.
Just because a person is an “insider” should not be disqualifying, in and of itself. The President-elect is known for putting the best people in place to accomplish the task.
Looks she’s already done some swamp draining of her own.
<<During Chao’s first four years as Secretary of Labor, OSHA did not promulgate a single significant health standard.<<
