President-elect Donald Trump plans to nominate former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao to head the Transportation Department, a source with knowledge of the decision said on Tuesday. The source, who requested anonymity, confirmed the pick to Reuters. Chao, the wife of Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, served as labor secretary under President George W. Bush and was the first Asian-American woman to hold a Cabinet position. The formal announcement was expected Tuesday afternoon. Although Trump spoke on the campaign trail about wanting to "drain the swamp" in Washington, more than half of Trump's nine key appointments so far have been accomplished Washington insiders, such as Chao.

Nah. Not buying it unless I hear it officially announced.
“Meet the new boss: same as the old boss.”
Naw. Trump isn’t a politician who lived off the gov’t tit all his adult life. Never Trumpers are going to despise him regardless of who he picks.
I think Trump knows exactly what he is doing with his cabinet appointments just as he knew what he was doing in the people he moved into & out of his campaign.
Christie had scandal issues and Trump isn’t into emphasizing that. He’s quite willing to let as much scandal as possible come from the Democrats.
Elaine “chow” huh.
Having big government interfere in your life by shutting down traffic to spite their enemies is something only liberals dislike now? Christie IS a liberal. A giant one.
It would have been hilarious.
Heads would be exploding again on the Clinton news network
I was being sarcastic and would have been hilarious to watch liberals head explode over that.
Christie is not a liberal, sorry, that does not work anymore
What is her family history?
Half a swamp drained is better then none, Mama used to say,, uhhhmmm hhmmm
Sounds like a great idea. But I guess that one just got officially excised from the “drain the swamp” bill.
Agreed about the legislative agenda moving better . . . at least in the area of transportation infrastructure. This is an important part of Trump’s economic plans and needs to get through Congress quickly and without a bunch of legislative “junk” attached.
I am pretty sure Trump trusts Mitch . . . about as far as he can throw him.

Here’s the issue with the Transportation Department. It is all about planning and more planning. The have rules that every state, county, and city adopt an annual 6 year Transportation Improvement Plan which is a glorified wish list because most cities and counties don’t have enough funding to cover more than 1 project every couple of years.
The DOT mandates a planning process resulting in another level of bureaucracy at the local level called the MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization) or the RTPO (Rural Transportation planning Organization. These groups hire more planners and are made up from a board of local elected officials and department head level staff from the jurisdictions. All fed dollars are programmed to projects through a competitive presentation project and based on their merits either receive funding or remain on the 6 yr. plans until they are funded.
The MPO/RTPO process is where the public can weigh in and typically results in added bicycle lanes, ADA access, and other frills.
They have basically removed the engineers from projects and replaced them with a cumbersome planning process. Our state DOT has virtually replaced all senior level engineering staff with planners and it is difficult to communicate the project to them unless you speak planner...
She go home at night and tell the turtle what hes supposed to do.

LOL! You win the award for funniest post of the day.
So we elected an outsider to “drain the swamp” and bring a fresh, new, business-minded perspective to running government...
“Elaine Lan Chao is an American politician who served as the 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009, and Deputy Secretary of Transportation under President George H. W. Bush.”
Why aren’t we seeing more appointments of private sector individuals? Why is he mostly re-hiring a bunch of people who’ve been in previous administrations?
I know this isn’t an important position, but then why not take more of a risk on it? Why play this one so safe when the damage potential is low?
Its true. Transition team leaked it early today.
Given what Christie let happen in NJ with respect to transportation, that’s debatable.

Perhaps because Trump believes they can get the job done, is my guess. Based on his history of immense success, I’m gonna trust him till he proves I shouldn’t.
My question to you is this: Since you were never-trump for so many months are you going to whine & bitch like this is Trump’s appointee’s prove to be brilliant choices who implement his policies?
See, I remember you from the primaries. :)
We seem to be getting the same old creatures from the establishment. I thought Trump was draining the swamp.
