I was just thinking about what the climate would be like in Russia, and I was like, it isn’t really a frozen wasteland, it’s more like... North Dakota. :-)

I was told it was over a sacred burial ground.

Let them enjoy a good North Dakota Winter Storm!

We moved to South Dakota just in time for the worst blizzard since 1888. We had just moved from Puerto Rico. Body surfing the month before.

So you lived in the Riviera of the Dakotas, then.

Yes, they are certainly very iggorant.

My high school band director Mr.Webb (grad from Michigan State) used that term to describe one of his students.

I recall an article on building the WWII road in Alaska and the natives would keep working on the road while the lower-48 guys would have to go in. They did all sorts of studies, diets, etc. to try to figure out why the cold didn’t bother the natives.

After not being able to figure anything out, they ended up believing what the natives told them. “Sure I’m cold, but if I stopped working when I was cold, nothing would ever get done up here!”

Since when is it constitutional for any public official to order a private citizen off of their private property without a warrant for their arrest or court hearing/order?

I'm assuming when it's for "public safety".

The intent of my post was what I call negative sarcasm. It was to point out that if the protesters were on private land and had permission from the land owner, there would be very little that the government could do to stop their protests.

Maybe some truth to that.

The natives were physically and emotionally acclimated to the cold. If you stop movement, or work, then you stop burning energy, which produces heat, which keeps proper blood flow, which keeps you warmer.

The non-natives would likely feel a chill, stop working, then really get cold.

When in a frostbite/freeze-to-death situation, the last thing you want to do is to go to sleep. You must do the opposite, keep moving.

The pipeline protesters are likely not acclimated to the cold. What worsens their plight is they are whiny babies that simply will not tolerate the cold. Most will just leave. The idiots that stay on will get frost bit or freeze to death simply because protesting does not involve actual work which keeps one warm. Or, die of carbon monoxide poisoning from their own car.
Like the Wehrmacht of WWII, they are in over their heads in more than one aspect once the winter starts.

“Since when is it constitutional for any public official to order a private citizen off of their private property without a warrant for their arrest or court hearing/order?”

I do not think the protesters are on private land. I’ve read in a few articles that the land belongs to the Corps Of Engineers.

A quick search revealed this article which supports this:

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-standing-rock-corps-20161128-story.html

The Corp typically “owns” land areas adjacent to bodies of water, rivers, damns & canals as I believe they are responsible for management of such areas.

They also have numerous recreational facilities open to the public. It is public land, and the public is typically not restricted from it.

This is likely why the protesters have likely set up on Corps lands.

The Corps typically closes all of its campgrounds on a seasonal basis. This is normal in cold climate areas as so does the state and other parks close up.

The Corps originally intended to close their area, but my guess is our obama regime put a stop to it.

So maybe your question should be: “Is it lawful for a state governor to order a private citizen off of federal property?

Keep in mind ND has no plans to enforce this order. This is a CYA move in case any of these idiots dies or gets frost bit.

There are 4 stated reasons for the protests
1. Pollute the water with oil (false)
2. Destroying sacred grounds (false)
3. Pipeline was fast-tracked without environmental safeguards (false)
4. Being built on property owned by the tribe (false)

1 is based on the fear that oil could spill into the missouri river, and then migrate to their intake pipe, which is being moved 70 miles away.
2 is based on nothing, as the pipeline was surveyed ahead of time by authorities, and there are historians and archeologists on-site to evaluate each day’s work.
3 is based on nothing, as it took 7 years and the pipeline company actually asked for a fuller evaluation than necessary.
4 is based on a century-old claim to land that has been rejected repeatedly — some of which private property has now been sold, or easements granted, to the company.

There’s also:
A. We should stop using oil, so we don’t need pipelines
B. Native Americans really own the country

The above Facebook post is very informative - correlates with your reasons and what is true. The guy is a sheriff that went up there to help coordinate and train the cops.

It sounds like he thinks it is primarily an old land/treaty dispute like you said. The area that they are protesting - the new pipe is to be placed in the easement that already has a natural gas pipeline!

Seems to me that the CYA strategy was used before Katrina also.

For DAYS, all we heard on the news (weather AND other news) was about the monster storm on the way and that residents should GET OUT.... days and days it was announced....

But Liberals STILL made it out that NOLA residents were ‘disserved’ and that the Prez dropped the ball... REALLY???!!

There is no way to defend against the lies of the leftist MSM.

But a good CYA represents solid evidence if one of those pukes gets hurt and tries to sue.

BTW, the local media is declaring the storm that just ended to be the worst in 5 years. I suspect most of that hippie scum has left by now and will not be heard of again.
