How allegorical.
It is. It reminds of the sort who "call the super" to fix burned out lightbulbs in their kitchens.
This election is ironic. Trump is a New Yorker to his bones, loves his conspicuous, garish displays of wealth. He was embraced and carried to victory by rural and suburban Americans from 'flyover country'. Hildebeeste is a deracinated arrogant elitist, no more a New Yorker than an Arkansan or an Illinoisian or even much of an American. Her support was primarily from the densest cities.
Trump stands as a reminder that New Yorkers aren't all like the effete parlor-pink snob who wrote this piece. The "super" who shows up to change his (?) lightbulb is also a New Yorker.
