Damn straight! Funny story you might find of interest. Got out OCT 97 and uncle decided to take me with all his buddies deer hunting (my first time) in NOV 97. Keep in mind my uncle and his buddies had been game hunting for decades. All I knew going in was wear orange clear line of fire in woods, shoot deer.
Day one I was at bottom of a wooded hill with uncle when we got sight of a buck trotting along about 80 yards through the woods half way up the hill. I being one month out felt the jolt Marines know the feeling. I unloaded my shotgun and instead of staying in place to watch I sprinted after that deer up that hill while my uncle was yelling Whoa! Stop! Too late I was over top that hill in full sprint hahaha! I was frozen in my tracks at the first sound of 3 more shotgun blasts and made my way back to my uncle.
The lesson...there are other hunters that heard that shot and are looking
Other hunters will shoot
Go to where you took the shot and look for blood
Be patient and look for the trail
Uncle asked why did you run?
