“CA is a net contributor to the federal government.”

Do you have anything that backs up that statement? The last report I read indicated CA sucks up over 30% of the entire fedgov subsidy budget. CA is the most populous state, but they don’t represent 30% of the population. Seems to me the rest of the country is supporting thier useless socialist utopia.

There are lots of sources out there that generally agree. CA is a relatively low consumer of Federal dollars on a per capita basis.

Wikipedia has some very useful tables showing Federal spending by type by state, both in absolute and per capita terms

The Tax Foundation ranks CA 42nd out of 51 in dependency on Federal spending (with #1 being the most dependent).

I realize it's The Atlantic but they have some handy maps, including the WalletHub one showing CA ranked 43rd in return from the feds.
