Quayle was reading the words for a spelling bee from cards handed to him by the teachers. The word potato was spelled incorrectly on the card. It was a set up. Of course our lying media, who were there, never bothered to clarify how it happened.

Bush wanted to be the education president. He did one good thing there, insisting that public schools teach reading by some method that had been researched to show that it was effective. Most places that had been teaching via a way out method began teaching using phonics.
