They go for a national popular vote on their president but you will also get your finger inked if you vote.

Maybe, but the so-called "popular vote" ALWAYS allows the RAT cities to chose the President.

The Electoral College gives geographic representation to small population states, as does the US Senate.

I’ve long been curious what a forced plebiscite would do, however. Could there be even more couch conservatives than couch lefties?

That’s a side issue and hypothetical of course. The electoral college weighting system makes sense for a number of reasons yet. The point is that they made jolly well sure that nobody voted either twice, or without the formality of appearing (i.e. no votes from the hereafter).
