Data isn't (aren't) political and reliable climate data has lots of legitimate uses.
The answer to politicized science isn't to stop doing research, it's to make sure those interpreting the data are driven by the scientific method.
The more confident thing would be to say we're going to make sure the data is analyzed honestly. This makes it look like we don't like the answer so we're not going to ask the question any more.

Problem is that none of the subject “data” is from empirical observation; it is the result of tendentious political posturing “models” that have no basis in legitimate science.
