They’ll be stuck with the worst students whether there are charter and private schools or not. The difference is that with alternatives, the students that do want to learn will not be forcibly confined with and pulled down by the worst.

Here in CT, public education has been saddled with the outcome of *Sheff v Oneill*.
http://sheffmovement.org/history-2/

Inner city/urban students now can apply to charter/theme schools outside their neighborhood; transportation provided.

A few parents are involved and aware of the opportunities for their children; these parents get their kids into charter schools, even if there is a waiting list or lottery. So, slowly but surely, the old neighborhood schools have decreasing populations. Empty buildings, still with the same amount of staff; than some vocal parents [left behinds] are screaming *injustice*, b/c of talk of closing some schools to save money.

So what did the elites think was going to happen when they complied with the law? It’s a circus. A zoo.

Always, at the end of this food chain are the kids ....they always come last to the do-gooders, policicians and power elites.

And yes, many of them, are the troublemakers, low performers. The thing is, public schools *must* accept whoever shows up at their door; unlike private schools or some charters, entrance tests and standards can be applied to *exclude* certain children. So we’re back to the beginning.

Absent from this discussion is the fact that few, if any parents are truly *involved* in a meaningful way their their child’s education.

Don’t get me started about the fact that *special-ed* classes were dissolved ... SE kids dispersed into regular classrooms, all in the name of inclusion.
