if this bizarre little theory held any water at all, he would have offered the UN ambassadorship to the governor of a purple state that had a democrat governor and a republican lt. governor -- where he would actually (possibly) accomplish something.
there are some people on FR that need to dial the weirdness back a few clicks.
No need for slack. The people won't get a say because it won't be a ballot box issue. That's why the Governorship is important. Its worth having an ally rather than someone who is set to fight you, perhaps even as part of a plan to increase their profile.
Could there have been other States Governors who was ripe to be offered an enticement to move? Sure 18 of them. How many have Republican Lt Gov, who have supported Trump's ideas? Currently, 25 states elect a lieutenant governor on a ticket with the governor, while 18 states elect a lieutenant governor separately. Five states do not have a lieutenant governor. There are currently 36 Republicans and 14 Democrats serving as lieutenant governor or serving as the first in the line of succession. With that in mind which state do you suggest has the scenario you think Trump should have looked for?
Differing opinions is part of the game. I think it was a good move for the reasons I stated above. We will get to see. One thing I am sure of is that second guessing Trump at every turn and in time to the MSM's chorus is a loser's game.
