California's secession: Could Christmas come early for the rest of us?
American Thinker ^ | November 23, 2016 | Ed Straker

Posted on 11/23/2016 4:31:17 AM PST by NYer

"Should California become a free, sovereign, and independent country?"

The question could appear on a statewide ballot in 2018 if a group of secessionists has its way.

Marcus Evans, the vice president of Yes California, filed a proposed ballot measure with the Attorney General's Office on Monday that would appear on the November 2018 gubernatorial ballot.

If voters approve the measure, it would establish a special election in March 2019 to ask voters again if they want California to become an independent country, Yes California wrote in a ballot measure filing.

More than half of the registered voters in the state must participate in the special election and at least 55 percent must vote "yes" for the proposal to move forward, according to information submitted by the group. If voters approve the measure, "the governor shall carry and shepherd an application for the newly independent Republic of California to join the United Nations," they say.

Evans said the group filed the ballot proposal in response to an uptick in support in a deep-blue state following the election of Donald Trump.

You may think, what does it matter?  California can't unilaterally decide to withdraw from the Union.  But you forget, there are two legal standards: one for conservatives and one for liberals.  Conservatives are prosecuted if they choose to disregard laws or even regulations or court decisions on marriage being redefined to include same-sex couples, letting boys in girls' bathrooms, or voter ID nullification.  But liberals are held to a very different standard.  They create sanctuary cities in defiance of federal law without consequence.  They legalize narcotics, first timidly for "medical" use, then boldly for "recreational" use, despite prohibitions in federal law, and have suffered no penalty for it.

California couldn’t afford to pay for the federal lands and parks.

When I was little I dreamed of a diamond and ruby necklace like that because I thought the lights on the freeway were so beautiful. Course I wasn’t driving then.

Isn’t it ironic that 151 years after the Civil War that the Democrats are still the party that hates the USA?

Then they show whites single race only as 57%

But that includes Hispanics as they "can be any race".

Which is absurd, because it becomes a meaningless category based on language only.

So you're incorrect. Read the Census. It distinguishes between non-Hispanic whites and also gives the number for Hispanic ethnicity, which are the numbers I quoted.

I will do a happy-dance in public and put it on Youtube if this actually happens, especially if Northern California has a chance to split from Southern and let them rot with the flea-ridden peasants and sexual freaks they have for a populace.

I would love to see California go. There used to be a saying ‘as goes California, so goes the nation’ or words to that effect. Today, California stands as totally outside the mainstream of what’s happening in America.

In 2014, while most of the rest of the nation was voting Republican, California was re-electing Jerry Brown with 60% of the vote and the GOP made no inroads in Congress there. In 2016, while Trump was carrying most of the South and Midwest and winning the Electoral College, California was voting for Hillary by a nearly 2 to 1 margin. They’re totally outside the mainstream of what’s going on in the US. Let them be their own country and see how they fare.

Oh, right, even better, let the inland red counties secede from CA, for a new state (East CA I guess), and give us 2 more senators plus an added electoral advantage!

I never said we should make them stay....I was pointing out that the poster was making reference to the civil war and I noticed they left put the destruction of the Southern cities.

Pay attention to context...:)

Well, of course it wouldn't be quite the clean break some of us might like to think. It's easy to think of all the trouble CA brings in terms of insane liberalism, but that state is also very key when it comes to a number of areas.

For example...

Fiscal Year 2012 - California was the #1 state in Federal Tax revenue collected by state with gross collections of nearly 300 billion, $292,563,574,000.
VS Per capita federal spending fiscal year 2013: CA ranks 15th lowest in the union.

CA has 2 of the top 10 busiest ports.

CA is the #1 agricultural producing state (2015) with a 12.4% share of U.S. receipts valued at just over 47 billion, $47,071,513,000. The #2 state is Iowa at 7.3% at nearly 28 billion.

CA military bases - Air Force (6), Army (17), Navy (19), Marine Corps (8), Coast Guard (12):

Of note:
Air Force - Edwards AFB (Hosts an average of 200 special test programs at the cutting edge of aerospace technology).
Vandenberg AFB (Major spaceport with 6 active space launch complexes).
Navy - NS San Diego (Pacific Fleet’s main homeport)
NAS Lemore (Largest master jet air station of the United States Navy)
Marine Corps - Camp Pendleton (1 of 2 main training/base camps).
http://www.militaryauthority.com/wiki/military-bases/nationwide/california/

I think some of the best things that could happen in the short term is to (1)defund sanctuary cities, (2)enforce current immigration law, (3)deport criminal foreigners here illegally and (4)make economic conditions very, very difficult for those foreigners here illegally such that they will by and large self deport.

Of course, these things would be best for the entire country, but they would also be a good start and just might put CA back on the path of becoming the state that gave us Ronald Reagan.

"Without US government tax payer money, Kalifornia will go under in less than six months."

As much fun as it is to bash the crazy libs in CA, that just isn't the economic reality.

You mean like Reconstruction? No Democrat can hold office, and all who swore allegiance to the succession movement denied citizenship, or the right to vote, for a period of years.

Talk about causing hard feelings for generations, and Race hustlers taking advantage, and calling the rest of us Racist for causing harm to the illegal aliens in California.
