South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a rising Republican star and daughter of Indian immigrants, has accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the coming administration, according to a person familiar with the selection process.
The move, which will be announced Wednesday morning, was first reported by the Post and Courier , comes as Trump advisers are seeking to diversify his ranks and marks his first female appointment to a cabinet-level post.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been announced by Trump’s transition team.
Haley, 44, who is serving her second term, has worked on trade and labor issues as governor but brings little foreign policy experience. Her views on various U.S. military and national security matters usually fall within the GOP’s hawkish mainstream.
Trump met with Haley last Thursday at Trump Tower in New York as part of the round of meetings the president-elect has held.
If confirmed, Haley would be replaced by South Carolina’s Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, a top Trump ally. His ascension is seen inside of Trump’s inner circle as a welcome consequence of her departure, the person said — a way to promote them both.

Puleeze. Halley, IF she is actually picked for the post will be implementing Trump’s policies as UN Ambassador. If she deviates from Trump’s policies, Trump FIRES her. Why this isn’t obvious to the Hand Wringers Association boggles the mind.
If she gets fired, she is screwed cuz’ she can’t go back to SC & get back her job as governor.
Hey, Trump gets the best of both worlds here, he promotes his guy to an elected position he’s like to get more done in South Carolina and he get Haley in a position where she serves at the President’s pleasure - win, win.
On the other hand, appointing someone with no apparent qualifications for the job, like Haley, is an indication of just how unimportant Trump feels the UN Ambassador is.

I am liking the picks so far. Mostly worried about whether Trump will follow-through on campaign statements or start negotiating them away. Some mixed messages that are a bit troubling but they are through the prism of media which attack him at every opportunity. Best thing is seeing him troll them, continuing his in-your-face approach. Wonderful.
What other picks pending?
We are stuck with the UN, which we started and heavily fund. With Trump, hopefully we’ll see us use it to our advantage instead of let it operate as a peanut gallery sniping at us.

Not sure how she will perform at the UN, but Henry will be a dramatic upgrade as SC governor.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Trump can control what these GOPe “allies”, like Haley and Romney, say and do and make sure they support his agenda. If they don’t walk the line they can be fired which won’t help their future political ambitions.
