He was raised by a supportive but illiterate mother, who insisted he strive for excellence despite their poverty. As we all now know, he overcame what many consider insurmountable obstacles. I can see how this would be an area of interest for him.

It doesn’t need a whole lot to be an expert in HUD. A brain surgeon is over qualified for the job if you ask me. He will make it even better.

Correct me if I am wrong, but HUD seems outside his area of expertise.

He is brilliant and inspires people. Those talents transfer across domains.

There must be a place in the Trump Administration for someone of Carson’s abilities!

Building the inner cities is a very important part of Trump’s plan. Remember, Bannon said he wants Trump to win 40% of the black vote in 2020?

Carson in HUD will be part of this plan

It is. The connection presumably is urban and black. I envision him eaten up by a bureaucracy built up by 8 years of Obama.

Ditto! Trump is earnestly striving to gain great critical thinkers to join the team. New ways to attack old problems with creative solutions that are more than the standard “raise the budget” calls from the left and elites for political payback!

Intellectual honesty, moral integrity, love of country, American exceptualism, rugged individualism, love of Liberty (vice ‘license’), in other words, President Trump is looking for statesmen with proven track records of accomplishment!

I predict Trump approval ratings in the seventies thirty days after Inauguration Day.

This should be an easy gig for him; just shut it down!! There is NO constitutional role for the federal government in housing.

HUD needs to Go!

I absolutely agree but I doubt it's going anywhere. Carson would be wise to steer clear of that job, that agency is beyond repair. Worked at that agency as a contractor for 10 miserable years, only reason I stayed is because my employer constantly gave me bonuses to stay. HUD is 85% deadwood and deserves to be put to rest.

Surgeon General is beneath his qualification, IMO. I’d expected the offer to be HHS but Carson wants to try to make in-roads into restoring the black family, the role of black fathers etc.

This may be exactly the role for him. At any rate, I do hope he’s somewhere in Trumps administration.

People don’t understand that Surgeon General is the ultimate do nothing position, whose total budget is under $3,0000,000.

“Why not Surgeon General?”

Surgeon General is a symbolic office whose total budget is well under $3,000,000. It’s the ultimate do-nothing position. You don’t appoint someone qualified to be an actual General to a position best occupied by a private first class.

That was my thought. Carson may be a good pick for Surgeon General and a plausible one to head the Dept. of Health and Human Services, but not for HUD.

Carson is not the right person to deal with HUD—whether abolition or change.

As you know it is very bureaucratic and most of the HQ office is a bad joke.

A management consultant type with housing knowledge would probably be a much better pick.

Otherwise the agency will continue to muddle through at the taxpayers expense.
