On November 18, the Pentagon issued a Defense Department directive that will allow Department of Defense (D0D) personnel to carry firearms and employ deadly force while performing official duties.

It’s a start, but I still think there are too many hooks for private owned weapons.
I am more shocked about the 1st 3 sections.
I didn’t realize that there were no weapons on base ?
So no guard duty ?
Maybe I am misreading this.

section 4 is regarding private firearms.
- It’s “may grant”, not a “must grant”
- no arms inside buildings
- permission is for 90 days.(exceptions can go longer)
- 21 or older
- No current or past UCMJ actions
- Training ( sec 4.3.b.4 )
- Authorization ( sec 4.3.b.5)
let me know what I am missing....
Ping
Active Duty ping.
Doing my Happy Dance, no more on base shootings.
No, they're not. If more than a 0.25% of requests are approved by commanders, I'll be shocked.
Here is another post....
What say you about it?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3497391/posts
Agreed.
Same. It outlines the “why it’s necessary” but when you look at the details of the plan, you see just how few people will be authorized. Commanders assume risk. They minimize it as much as possible before assuming it. Allowing Soldiers to carry concealed will be considered risky. The best way to mitigate that risk is by not authorizing it in the first place.
GOOD -— WAY PAST TIME
Even happier if all chp holders could carry on all federal property
So I am now confused. Are you saying there are NO changes?
Or are you saying there are some changes but not good enough.
I think you are saying the later. President Elect Trump is not in office yet but this says to me the military are happy to comply with President Elect Trump’s position as soon as he is in office.
Yes?
OMG - it’s like parts of the world are going ‘sane’...
It's a step in the right direction - probably to prepare for Trump being CINC.
Expect a few more steps soon....
Yes but they cannot carry it :)

I hope not. To be noticed as a greatest leader he will need to preside over a terrible, existential crisis, like Washington, Lincoln, or Franklin Roosevelt.
Reagan came close with the Cold War.
We do not want such a crises. We may get it, but we do not want it. Trump will be a better leader if we can avoid such a crises, but he will not get the credit of a wartime leader.

IMO, we’re IN a crisis already...of the Constitutional bent. Wartime on the homefront (Civil) is a hell of a lot different than watching from afar; but, the (D)\Liberals\GOPe seem to want to bring it on.
I just wish DT would call to that dusty, old document more often. Makes it that much harder to argue vs. black-n-white of plain, simple English.
The change is that a battalion commander can sign off on a memo allowing a Soldier to carry a concealed weapon for 90 days if the Soldier has provided a valid reason for wanting/needing to carry. A standard infantry battalion has about 800 Soldiers. If even 10% of those Soldiers want permission to carry, then the BN CDR is signing off on 80 memos every three months? That’s assuming he agrees with all of their reasons. No. That’s not going to happen.
I have never understood why people who are extensively trained to kill someone else in a combat situation were not allowed to protect themselves when they are not in an active war zone. Pay them nothing—put them into jeopardy in another country & then don’t give them the same right to defend themselves & their families as I can defend myself.
NEVER made any sense.
What President passed this? Why am I suspicious of Carter???
We are in a crisis. Millions of illegals voted, and many millions more are here. We're $20 trillion in debt, we're the laughingstock of the world, there's hundreds of thousands of people being bused around paid for by Soros to riot, 0bama is going scorched earth before leaving, we have 0bamacare in which government forces us to buy something that's too expensive, and if we don't we get fined, among many, many other things that I can't remember. Better that than localized skirmishes.
so YES, there were good changes, and we can expect more after
President-Elect is in office.
Thank you, I was aware of what the article said.
:)
