German Chancellor Angela Merkel has confirmed her decision to run for a fourth term, vowing explicitly to take on the forces of anti-establishment populism currently sweeping the West.
We are facing struggles in Europe and internationally for our values and our interests and, simply put, for our way of life, Merkel told reporters at the headquarters of her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party on Sunday night, Euractiv has reported.

It’s amazing how the establishment just refuses to see that their way of thinking is swirling around and going down.
She better get a jump start on finding another job if she plans on running on that platform. I’ll bet Obama told her she was a “shoo-in” like he told Hillary.
“I will keep bringing new voters here because the old ones have turned out to be faithless electors.”
Problem is, I think her election has no electoral college protections, must look into this, she either wins by national vote or by reason of being party leader of a winning party (as in Canada, only Justin Trudeau’s Montreal neighbors directly vote for him, the rest of us choose a prime minister by default through our riding MP selection). That is also the case in the U.K. ... and as we’ve seen, the prime minister can change simply by a resignation followed by a party convention. It could be years before the people even have the chance to comment indirectly at the ballot box.
In France they go by a national vote for their top position, that involves a runoff if nobody gets 50%.
Will look into how Germany does this and post if nobody beats me to it.
this election will tell us all we need to know about the German people. If she’s re-elected just kiss Europe goodbye. Well, western Europe at any rate. The eastern Europeans seem to have spines, self respect and healthy willingness to defend their self interests.
Someone should ask her “who exactly are the establishment?” Who are the people you have decided to take orders from if it’s not the people?
I did not see any reference for when the election is. Is a date set, or is it something that has to be called? Sorry I am not familiar with the politics of other countries!
Has Merkel imported enough Muslim voters yet to out-vote the natives?
Obama tried like hell to do that for Hillary and didn’t quite manage it, but things are quite a bit worse in Germany.
If it’s not too late already for them this is absolutely their last chance.
Any idea how the Alternative for Germany (the left calls far right) doing?
How do you say “stuck on stupid” in German?
Love, Russ Honore
I don’t think “Deutschland Unter Alles” is going to be a winning campaign slogan.
Wow, Angela, obama really blew some smoke up your ass didn’t she.
He talked you into ignoring a world wide movement and you’re own lying eyes. How blind can the globalist be? Simply amazing.
Merkel will win again..unless there is some SUPER-WUNDERKIND hiding in the weeds.
Steckendümmen?
"She rules by silence" was an interesting comment. I GUESS that the Germans think that's fine. They MUST since she's been in office since the beginning of time.
It appears that her election as Chancellor depends on her party winning the control of the parliament (either by majority of members or leading a coalition), presupposing that she is elected in her district.
The voting system is complex. People vote for a local representative and for a regional party list. The parliament is filled by a combination of these. Some candidates are on both lists in case they lose their local seats (then they go in as part of the regional list in some cases).
If Merkel becomes unpopular nationally then the voters will have to reject her party at both local and regional levels to the extent necessary for some other party to win power and then that party’s leader will be Chancellor.
Sharia Together!
Good luck with that.
IOW, she’s opted for the Clinton template. Time for Germans to get their Trump on.
Just remember the 100’s of thousands of crimes committed by her Muslims
