Obama suggested once he was out of office he would uphold the tradition of ex-presidents stepping aside quietly to allow their successors space to govern.

As Obama's predecessor, George W Bush, did. It was gracious and statesman-like, and Obama would be well-advised to follow it. Given his penchant for being an insufferable egotist who thinks he knows better than all the bitter clingers, I don't believe he will.
