I think around 500 is the number of purely political advisers and such.
Another 100 non-political staff.
In all, it seems 2000 people work in the White House. Many of them actually work for other branches and agencies.
And there may be another 1500 people who work there at least part-time.

By the way, I do think you will eventually get your wish, a main disagreement you and I have is that I don’t think 9/11 could have pushed us that way.

I understand that gentleman’s point of view, but looking at it dispassionately, we all know there wasn’t going to be a bombing campaign on Saudi Arabia.
I am someone who has always thought the Iraqis were behind the Oklahoma City bombing, so I have always felt that our country had a settle to score with Iraq...in much the same way I have always felt we had a score to settle with North Korea over the USS Pueblo.
That Iraq was openly aiding and abetting terrorism is unquestionable to me. One can only look to their providing asylum and protection to Abbu Abbas, just one single example. I have read “The Third Terrorist” by Jayna Davis, and am convinced Saddam Hussein was knee deep in that. He had it coming.
I do believe we will eventually be at open war with Islam, but I see that happening when there is an encompassing caliphate, not a larger group of individual national entities. I don’t have any idea how long it will be before that happens, but I feel strongly it will come to that someday, but it isn’t there yet, and it might not be for 50 years. But I think it is going to happen, because that is what Islam is. I know that is a very pessimistic point of view, but I am just trying to view it realistically.
That is why I feel relieved to hear a prospective National Security Advisor to Trump (Flynn) describe Islam as a “political ideology and a cancer.” As I said to LouAvul, I disagreed with many of Bush’s actions, reaching across the political aisle to the Democrats, keeping Democrats in various positions, and yes, hiring Colin Powell who showed himself to be a partisan, lying, liberal backstabber with no moral compass. (He knew all along that Scooter Libby had done nothing wrong, because he knew was the guilty party, but...he let Scooter Libby swing. I hated his chummy treatment of Ted Kennedy et al, and so many other things.
But I don’t fault him in the war on Afghanistan and Iraq.
Their severance package should consist of a box of Play Doh, crayons, and a coloring book - wrapped up and secured with a safety pin.
Surely they will be able to get a good job since the Obama economy was so great. Yes?
Next, I would like to see property values in the DC region plunge.
I remember when Bill Clinton took office. My 1st cousin, a Navy VET, had been working in the White House since Nixon. The phone company was told to replace him. He got laid off, lost his health care, developed cancer, and was dead in two short years.

My cousin was one of the 92 or 93 Federal Prosecutors fired 60 days after Bill Clinton took office. He had been appointed by Nixon and served under both Carter and Reagan.
