Reducing the debt is one of my top priorities. Making extra payments towards the debt is not on this list. Trump didn’t propose much if anything during the campaign to reduce the debt. One of his biggest weaknesses. We already lived through the Bush years, where big-spending Republicans abandoned their moral high ground as fiscal hawks.
I agree that debt reduction should be important, but there is no political advantage to reduce it. You just give a future dem a bigger slush fund later on. It sucks, but we are in a death spiral on tbis and anyone who tries to stop it will be politically destroyed.
