The Obama administration on Friday banned offshore drilling in the Arctic, setting a likely collision course with President-elect Donald Trump, who has vowed to “unleash” new energy production in the United States by rolling back restrictions on oil and gas companies.
The move by the Interior Department, part of a new five-year plan for energy development in federal waters, would put a temporary end to exploration in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas off the Alaskan coast. It also dropped plans to allow companies to drill for oil and natural gas in the Atlantic Ocean off of four southeastern states, including Virginia.

Law was passed in the '90s at Gingrich's urging. In recent years the Republican Congress has tried using it against Obama's regulations -- but it has always been vetoed by Obama.
Soon we'll have a president who won't veto the regulatory roll-back. He should add a little smiley-face after his signature ... just to stick it to the bureaucrats.

There is another factor to be taken into consideration. The Alaska Pipeline must have enough oil flowing through it so that it can function despite the cold outside temperatures. As the present wells are depleted, if new wells don’t come online, the pipeline will have operational problems. So there must be a certain amount of oil available to pump. Below that, none can get pumped.

That petty little man in the White House continues to thumb us in the eye on his way out. I’m sure President Trump knows exactly what to do about it, too.
