The Lincoln MKZ is a Ford Fusion variant. AFAIK, they've always been built on the same assembly line. I thought the plant in question was making the smaller Focus model line, but perhaps it was both.

Regardless, the plant was never "going away", Ford planned to shift it over to higher-profit Ranger pickups and the new Bronco SUV. Sounds like a win for both Trump and Ford.

I think people are getting something confused. FORD is not slated to move, as in close, anything. However they were planing on taking some smaller models of out of US plants to Mexico. Now the plant in KY would still have the other models that you mentioned, but lost the smaller MKZ. However, that can still cost jobs because not as many workers are needed if you stop the assembly of one or two models in one plant. Even the plant in MI which is losing the focus is not slated to close, according to FORD.

The Louisville plant being talked about builds the Ford Escape and its Lincoln MKC twin. Moving Escape’s 300,000 units to Mexico while leaving the more expensive MKC’s 30,000 units in Louisville isn’t much of a victory.

The Fusion/MKZ is already built in Mexico.

Something about this story doesn’t add up.
