Americans do love that Aristotelian model, with a left wing and a right wing emanating from a “sensible center,” where both left and right become increasingly irrational, dangerous, and obnoxious as they move further from the center.
Reality is better represented by a continuum running from Satan on the left to God on the right. This allows us to see two things:
1. The left calls anything unpleasant “right wing,” without regard for the truth; and
2. It is not humanly possible to get far enough to the right. The further one goes to the right, the fewer nuts one finds.
