Liberals don’t get that the reason we have kept the electoral college is because of the divide between rural and urban/suburban; their values and ways of life have always been different and should be balanced.
Popular/electoral split is rare enough that when they happen, it means that the losing party is merely out of touch with too many other types of people. Democrats think all rural people are X-ist rednecks hicks; broadbrushing has consequences.
Plus, her margin is so small in the popular vote count, that if the popular vote percentages of Trump and Crooked Hillary were a poll result, it would be “dead heat.”

The electoral college is a good fit to a republic made up of sovereign states that bound themselves together to create a more powerful union :-)
Popular vote elections are suited to a democracy of weak states bound together to enable an all-powerful central government :-(
The electoral college exists because we are the united STATES. If the President could always ignore certain states, why would they have any incentive to remain in the union?
Popular vote only would allow a candidate who only appealed to one specific region of the country to get elected.
