I offered a sincere apology for publicly challenging her post and offered to make it a public apology if she desired. I did not apologize for disagreeing or say I was wrong. I am having lunch with her mom tomorrow and we will see how the waters are. I am concerned about a grudge. I have to say I am disheartened at the whole situation, politically and personally.

I wouldn't bring it up, if I was in your shoes. The three of you are adults, and can have independent relationships. The fact that I won't take being called a bigot by somebody, even my best friend's son, doesn't affect the relationship I have with my best friend, and it doesn't affect the relationship he has with his son.
