Did she really return things for cash? Without a receipt? Usually store credit is given...bad enough, but I’ve been the clerk on the other end of those transactions. I can tell you, I memorized everything about the thief’s appearance and what they were returning, in case I ever needed to testify against them. I never did need to, but I was told that several of the thieves that I reported were prosecuted and served some time. As soon as they were out they would come back for more. It always disgusted me.
I was at Ross, a discount store and a young black man had a pile of clothes he was returning for a store credit gift card worth over $300. When he turned to leave, the clerk keyed her earpiece and gave a play by play as he left the store. He smiled at a black woman who smiled back and she left the store right after him. The clerk said people steal the stuff without security tags on them and return them for gift cards which they then sell for 50% off.
I was livid.
