EXACTLY! People forget how instrumental Preibus was in scuttling the NeverTrump’s attempts to fix the convention through the rules committee. If he didn’t stick up for Trump, we’d be talking about President Elect Clinton.

I’m not worried. Trump has spent more time around Rinse than any of us have. It’s not like these people can go rogue on him and he’ll just sit back and take it.
I trust Trump’s instincts, after all, he won while spending almost nothing on ads. Even before that, he defeated 16 republican candidates, including Jeb who spent about $150 MILLION and got about 4 delegates. Anyone smart enough to do that, is smart enough to know who to pick. Besides, you can’t have an administration made up of all outsiders, nothing would be accomplished.
Now, I hope he brings in more outsiders, and independent minded people, and no neo-con artists, or left over Bushites.
I predict Trump shakes up his staff within six months of his first term—and after that moves ahead with a really great staff.
The only defense I can have for this is if it helps him get through massive reforms and really good cabinet nominations in his first three months in office.
But I still think it is a bad idea.

Priebus harnessed recalcitrant Republicans to support Trump, dedicated a lot of RNC resources to his election, and is an effective manager (though not as effective as Kellyanne Conway, IMO.)
And he’s a friend of Ryan’s, so he might be able to help with Congressional relations. (But they already have Pence for that.)
Unfortunately, as Chief of Staff, he’ll probably bring in a lot of Establishemnt Republicans who don’t share — or even see — Trump’s vision, and as Morton Blackwell reminds us, “personnel is policy.”
Bannon should have been the guy.
I don’t trust Priebus for a minute.
I do too. But who knows if this “source” is for real?
I take the oath to not second guess his appointments. He needs to feel comfortable and to trust the people around him. He appears to have a great relationship with Reince and Reince is a good liaison to the rest of the Party. I think it’s a great choice.

The Trump campaign famously had no ground game — but Priebus and the RNC had a great one. It not only helped Trump win, but helped retain control of the Senate and House (with only very slightly diminished margins), raised the total of GOP governors to 34, won control of 3 more state legislative chambers (now 69 of 99). You get something for that.
Not a problem. Trump can keep Priebus on a short leash. He steps out of line and he’s out. It’s no problem.
And I’m confident he fully understands this.
I don’t want Bannon. I don’t trust him.
The way I see it: If he doesn’t work out, Trump will fire his ass. He’s not shy about such things.
Christie knows.
Seems to me that Trump gets the right person and makes the right decisions—but often after first taking, then recovering from, an errant step.
Examples on the staff level include wanting Kasich, then deciding on Christie, before making the great pick of Pence for VP. Or having Lewandowski and then Manafort, before settling on the great team of Conway and Bannon.
We’ve seen how he almost always settles on the very right policies, but often has to quickly modify, a bit, his initial spoken position.
My guess is that this is the same, but he will work it all out before too long.
I don’t want Bannon with his hands tied in this position. He is very effective when he has more flexibility. He should just call Bannon “Special Advisor to the President.”
Romney gathered a bunch of NeverTrumpers together and invited Priebus to speak. This was pre-convention but post Paul Manafort. Priebus told Romney’s well-heeled crowd, ‘Trump will win this with or without you.’
I always thought Manafort was the one to convert Priebus. At any rate, he stayed converted.

Priebus’ elaborate nuts and bolts GOTV ground game engineered Trump’s victory.
Reince can act as a liaison with congress to shepherd Trump’s legislative agenda.
I admire and laud Priebus’s loyalty, as you emphasized.
He has proven his character and strikes me as a genuinely honorable man.
His appointment as Chief of Staff would be another brilliant move a la picking Mike Pence as his running mate.
Trump did in fact spotlight Priebus during his victory speech Wednesday morning and even beckoned him to say a few words. He called Priebus a “rock star.”
But he ran the RNC and the RNC often wasn’t deploying its field forces to help the Trump vote at all.
It would match what he did with his VP pick
