Yes. It helps if one or two of the people involved are at least as smart as the whiteboard itself.
I love getting lectured by people dumber than a post about a subject that I am an expert on in situations such as you describe. Some ding-dong will organize a brainstorming session complete with whiteboard and such, then manage to make themselves look dumber than you thought possible.
I believe that’s the Dilbert principle in action - typically management that acts this way.
(The setting I see this occur in is electronics.) Usually management and such have a MA, BA and possibly another degree, but no common sense or practical knowledge yet they are damn sure a lot smarter than you are because they are management.
