By embracing social and political issues, athletes are breaking the 4th wall. They are free to do this, however with every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. People watch sports to escape life's concerns for a moment and once that immersion is broken, they will look to other forms.

What makes this worse is all the sports shows (ESPN for instance) drive the reality in order to promote certain viewpoints so that they can look politically/socially "legitimate" and push their own propaganda without giving the "other side" time to present an argument. Hence, just a whiny echo chamber over public airwaves.

In time, these sports networks became a tyrant over certain ideological outlooks and made sure to dispose of contrary opinions. A lot of people just got tired of having their intelligence insulted as well as half-truths being shoved down their throats by sports pundits.

Either shut down the social/political aspects or embrace a diverse range of ideological opinions/conclusion based on objective facts.

Good points. Will no longer watch Pardon The Interruption on ESPN and I’ve watched from the start. Wednesday’s opening was the last straw in a long history of straws. Just enjoyed it too much to give it up. Until now. Lifelong SI subscriber too until several years ago when they went full homo. Dropped another thing I had enjoyed, for decades in it’s case.
