Why is the author sharing this screed with the public? Why not just encourage the reporters, the supposed audience for the plea, to "fake it" better?

This is akin to the pollsters who knew they were lying all along, coming out on Wednesday saying, "golly, we sure did it wrong." Yeah, they got it wrong on purpose because they aim to manipulate the public. Same with this CBS report. It is designed to manipulate.
