So where did Hillary Clinton go wrong? Other than, well, being Hillary Clinton -- a widely disliked and distrusted candidate?
Ad Age Editor Ken Wheaton just asked me if I thought Donald Trump's triumph is about "traditional advertising and millions in spending being useless."
My short answer: Actually, no.
My longer answer is that, while Donald Trump obviously benefited from an unprecedented level of free media coverage, which convinced him for much of the race that he didn't need to waste money on ads, in the end Team Trump did, in fact, plow a ton of money into advertising -- and it cunningly, strategically outperformed tone-deaf Team Clinton.
To put that another way, Clinton badly screwed up her ad game.

Hillary screws up everything she touches. She’s just incompetent. Whenever a campaign decision needed to be made, she made the wrong one.
Oh, and she’s also a contemptible battle axe.
exactly - plenty of Crooked’s ads were counterproductive, they either ( sub-consciously) reminded voters of her lies or helped remind voters why DJT was different
Bump for later
re: popular vote
My wild guess is at least 3 million of Hillary’s 60 million votes were fraudulent.
Being authentic goes a long way. There is NOTHING authentic about Hillary. I wouldn’t believe her if she told me her favorite color. She lies about absolutely everything. She has no tangential relationship to the truth.
Yep. Calling us Americans “deplorables” was the best thing she did. To even read it off a prompter, she is more stupid than peat moss. She needed independent votes too, and that wasn’t the way.
Having done graphic art and logo designing, her campaign signs were done quite well. EXCEPT they bothered me for some reason. Something was off. One day driving down the road I saw one and it occurred to me what it was - the arrow pointed to the “right”.
Clinton was a screw-up from the start—a criminally corrupt screw-up. Her supporters and lap dogs in the media had a blindness for it that a republic can ill afford. That blindness continues until we have a media that does its job as it was intended to do.
I think a reason she screwed this up was because she chose to get in bed with the devil. There is SO much evil in this person. Does she not know that Trump was covered with prayer probably 24/7? This was a classic battle of good vs evil, and God is more powerful.
We’re hearing she “won” the popular vote. That’s not possible, except through massive fraud. Think of the fraud that was identified and corrected immediately. Then imagine the fraud that wasn’t caught and was successful. With current technology and Soros having the ability to control so many machines, we’re clueless.
It would be interesting to see how her success rate was in those states/counties using Soros machines.
Also, she screwed up because she’s a hypocrite and a lot of people figured that out — even the ones who aren’t wonkish. You tell your kids not to cheat on tests, but here’s someone wanting to be President who cheats on tests (debates). She sent her kid to the best private school, but she’ll be damned if your kid is able to do the same; she’ll make sure it doesn’t happen. There are so many examples but I’m so tired of thinking about Hillary that my hair hurts. Just give her an orange outfit and LOCK HER UP!
Another bad thing about her “H” logo is that it looked like a highway sign directing you to the nearest hospital. Much like her speeches, it conjured up thoughts of illness, pain and death, possibly by suicide. And when she started having her public “episodes,” it really reinforced that unhealthy image.
----------------------------------
She could spend it all and she'd never overcome open borders, sky-rocketing health care costs, stagnant wages, job losses, and big government regulation, all shrinking the middle class.
None of the libtards will ever understand it.
Maybe if she barked more...
Too much advertising can work against you.
I remember all the “concern” earlier in the campaign that Trump wasn’t advertising much, and Hillary was blanketing the airwaves.
In fact, Hillary was wasting money and annoying potential voters, and Trump wisely held his fire until the time was right.
No amount of advertising can turn a turd into Tootsie Roll.
I don’t watch much TV, so missed out on many of the campaign ads. However, I watched a bit of the 7th game of the world series. The Clinton machine slimmed the world series with one of their Trump sex attack ads. I thought it was totally inappropriate.
You can be tactically perfect and still lose a war. But if your strategy is correct you can win even if your tactics cost you a battle, or 2.
Just look at Hillary’s facistic campaign slogan “Stronger Together”. What did that mean in light of her “deplorables” rhetoric? It was empty and therefore did not sum up the thrust of her campaign and moreover everybody knew it.
Trump picked his campaign points very shrewdly. He may have taken positions that could easily be miscast by the media as controversial (ie. Building the Border Wall, Islamic violence, Economic tariffs) but in each of those areas events were bound to happen DURING THE CAMPAIGN that would buttress his argument.
Hillary was like the poker player who was dealt 3 Aces and couldn’t improve her hand. Trump was the player who had a good drawing hand, recognized it, bet shrewdly and succeeded in drawing to a straight.
slimmed = slimed
My favorite part of the article was (in the comment section) that said that Trump had a lot of problems and may have trouble getting re-elected.
Yes! Such problems we want to have!
(Still celebrating... :-) )
My 14 y/o son came home from his junior high school yesterday and said “mom, the kids were walking around sulking today after Hillary lost.”
Me: What did you do?
Him - Nothing. They know where I stand and I didn’t want to rub it in their faces.
Two years ago he would’ve been acting like his classmates. Daily doses of reality and constant reeducation from me put him off that tract.
That's about it.
