McConnell: Oh Yeah, We're Going To Move To Repeal Obamacare

Senate Republicans, flush with victory and defying the odds, have maintained their majority in the upper chamber and vowed to move quickly on repealing Obamacare. Senate Majority Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said, “It's pretty high on our agenda as you know. I would be shocked if we didn't move forward and keep our commitment to the American people."

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to repeal President Obama’s signature domestic achievement. McConnell did not discuss whether reconciliation would be used, though the chances of that are likely since the GOP majority is slim. And there is virtually no chance that Senate Republicans will be able to cobble together nine Democrats to reach 60 votes for cloture. Still, make no mistake, Trump and Congressional Republicans have signaled that Obamacare repeal is on the table. Yet, as with most bills, a lot of cost analysis, meetings, and the formulation of a replacement piece of legislation could take some time

Senate needs to nuke the filibuster when they are seated a couple weeks before Trump starts. The bill to JUST repeal Obamacare should be presented to Trump for signature at the inauguration. Obamacare is an abomination, restoring status quo ante is a big improvement needed ASAP. Ideally include repealing a bunch of other Obama nonsense for signing the same time. "Replacing" Obamacare implies there needs to be a government plan of some sort for healthcare. How about repealing enough other, older laws to get a pre-government free market that works. Why should the winners have to provide a replacement to something only the losers wanted in the first place? If anything positive requires legislation there's no reason it can't proceed at its own, separate pace. Fix the big problem, the abomination, fast!

McConnell's peddling the same mealy mouth useless inside-the-beltway cr@p he's been shoveling his whole miserable political life. Unfortunately for him, he'll be facing someone new:

IIRC the Supreme Court ruled 0bamacare is a tax, therefore it can be repealed with 51 votes in the Senate in a reconciliation vote.

This can not be emphasized enough...As soon as Republicans in the Senate bring up the vote to repeal, dimocrats will attempt to filibuster...when Republicans try to use reconciliation, dims will scream bloody murder and try to make it a political issue for the '18 mid-terms, and they will never mention that they used the exact same tactic to pass Obamacare in the first place. And of course, the media will completely back the dims' narrative.

Yes, that’s what they used to send the repeal bill to Obama’s desk - of course, he just vetoed it. Trump will sign it.

While glad that we maintained control, it is too bad that Ayotte lost because now we are more dependent on McCain, Murkowski, Collins, and Graham to stay in line to get things passed on a narrow basis. She was not perfect by any means, but far more reliable as compared to those 4.

The individual and employer mandates weren’t the worst problem - it was the massive regulations on the type of policies that could even be offered, what they had to cover, etc.

Now I’m not discounting the constitutional problem with the mandate - talking strictly the logistics of how it eliminated the very existence of good, inexpensive plans and healthcare providers. The mandates could have been in place without any of that happening.

They've only needed 51 for six years now. And what good did it do?

Well they passed the repeal and President Obama promptly vetoed it. If they do it this time then President Trump will likely sign it. Are you blaming the fact that Obama wouldn't sign on them as well?
