Obama is now just a spectator to history. He's spent 8 years surrounded by flatterers and that's now gone overnight. The power establishment's entire focus is now focused on Trump.
He'll be back in the Senate in 2018, bank on it. He's probably figuring out which State to establish residence in after he leaves the White House.
“What he’s reeling from is the full “weight” of his lame-duckness. Presidential power and authority, which was accorded him out of deference to the Office he occupied has just been ripped from him so fast that he must be breathless.

You are so right.
I remember one of Carter’s people reminiscing about calling one of the departments on the afternoon of Reagan’s inauguration asking about an update regarding the Iranian hostages and being told he wasn’t authorized to receive information. That was when he realized his authority was gone.
When that happens to Obama, it is going to hit him especially hard given his temperament. I don’t think he will be happy with the reduced perks of a Senate seat. I suspect he will be a bitter man trying to stay in the limelight and demonstrating his brilliance by lecturing the world through interviews, columns, and speeches.
I suspect George Bush will reach out to him about dealing with the change but Obama will reject him.
