Los Angeles poised to spend billions on two vexing problems: Traffic and homelessness

Los Angeles voters appeared to take decisive action on two of the region’s most vexing issues — traffic and homelessness — backing two ballot measures that would funnel billions of dollars to ease both problems.

While final ballots still were being counted, returns show voters approved both measures by the needed two-thirds majority, though officials say it could take days for the tallies to be finalized.

If approved, Los Angeles would begin two expensive experiments: Building many new rail lines in an effort to get commuters out of their cars and creating new permanent housing for the homeless.

There is plenty of skepticism about whether either will work. But voters appeared willing to give the ideas a try as they endure worsen

John an ken have been all over this homeless problem...the only ones getting help are the ones who get the huge 250k a year paycheck on the board to help the homeless.

Cali has already spent 100mil of taxpayer money on a 8 or 10 plan to stop people from being homeless....that was 8 or ten years ago....more homeless in LA than ever before.

One town in Cali has over 400 homeless around Cityhall buildings. They encourage the homeless...they make major money off of it.

Why don’t they just merge traffic and homelessness together and solve one of the problems.

So, homelessness is back in the news, now? Since a Republican will be in the White House?

Please make note:

Trump is not in office 12 hours yet and we have the first in our new meme of “homelessness” to be followed by “the poor”, and. The awful economy, etc.

It will be the 1980s all over again in the world of the Commie-Lib media clowns.

I live outside of Los Angeles. The official’s take taxpayer money while they actually incourage the homeless to move into Los Angeles. Big scam. Wealthy people make a living off of the taxpayer’s homeless money; attending meetings, writing reports, counting homeless, building a few housing units, providing lunch on holidays, having news conferences, writing books, etc. If they have 2000 homeless and they build 2000 housing units there will be 10000 waiting in line for the next 2000 units. Big scam.

Yep. Expect a steady carping on this from now on.

"The homeless" are innocent saints, whenever they aren't murdering each other.

These homeless housing areas will certainly be places you’ll never want enter.

Enough with the rail lines. Build more roads, freeways, make existing freeways wider.

We need workfare, get the HL to pick up trash.

I'm tired of the "Welfare Macht Frei" mentality of liberals.

The two problems could be excessive seagulls and flowers growing too tall on the hillsides - they would still spend the billions. :)

There are too many cars in LA. Don’t the citizens there care about climate change? If the LA government implemented a tax of about $5 per mile per car, they could eliminate much of the traffic problems, and simultaneously obtain the money to pay to import more never-workers.

Yes, I just saw the first opinion piece in the Slimes about homelessness, I said to myself “here we go again, you know there’s a Republican in the White House, because the left has remembered homelessness again, like clockwork.”
