More than a diversion it is deliberate misinformation so when the real stuff does come out it won't seem so bad. I'm surprised they don't have that Hillary kicked puppies and drowned kittens.
She's bad because she mishandled classified information. If she deliberately did so that's even worse it's called espionage. Which would qualify as treason. At the very least she has now obstructed justice in the matter. The 2 minimum charges (mishandling classified information and obstruction) are very bad for an official of the US government to do.
Remember as a person who went to law school and practiced law she is held to a higher standard not a lower one. As a cabinet official she is held to a higher standard as well. If people who study the law and aspire to the top offices of the country have no respect for the law why should anyone?
