Well, gee, and it took years to see any decrease in firearms homicides in the U.K. following their Dunblane inspired handgun ban (that was most likely not the reason for that decrease taking place). I guess also that the U.K. was a great place for terrorists to get their guns before the legal acquisition of shotguns required a permit, starting in 1967-68.

I would think that LEO are more careless with the care of firearms that the general public. Hey most LEO will get a free pass should anything ‘stolen’ if they even report — probably more likely LEO will cover their asses and hide it.

An interesting difference between the British and American press is the fact that they describe the 22 Czech VZ58s seized in Kent in 2015 as "assault rifles", as opposed to AK47s or AR15s.
